As we continue to build our organization, come and be a part of our story as the Apparel Product Development Manager.

Located in the LA Design Studio, at 818 S. Broadway, Los Angeles, California, this is an hourly, non-exempt position.

This position does have supervisory responsibilities with a strong focus on supporting staff in the procurement and execution of manufacturing and production styles, as well as to supporting apparel design in the development of samples for proprietary, seasonal clothing collections for five seasons a year with the goal of achievement of organizational KPIs and strategic objectives.

Under the guidance of the Design Director (apparel), responsibilities will require you to:

  • Serve as the point person between internal staff of design and technical design with freelance pattern makers, cutters, and sewers.
  • Responsible for executing Design proto samples process from initial design concept to manufacturing, this includes First proto, Fit samples and Photo samples.
  • Manage Technical Packages, communicating workflow for Pattern Maker and provide all Tech Pac direction to pattern maker.
  • Manage Cutting and daily work flow, sample yardage and patterns, cutting.
  • Manage Sample Tracking WIP for all samples. Follow-up with all sample time lines daily to the team to maintain an uninterrupted flow of work and ensure on-time delivery.
  • Maintain fabric and trim PO's. Responsible for seasonal fabric book with all pertinent information required by design.
  • Manage sample yardage receipt, swatch distribution and maintain sample fabric inventory.
  • Review and document all samples by photo, matching to technical package specs daily and archiving in a library.
  • Review, create and analyze yield of first proto styles. Maintain accurate records for production hand off.
  • Organize samples, assist in reviewing, communicating changes and tracking sample approvals.
  • Manage Production "hand off" seasonally of all approved styles with detailed correct pattern, fabric and trim requirements.
  • Enhance organizational reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different demands; exploring opportunities to add value to job and work area accomplishments.
  • Contribute to an environment in which all staff are respected regardless of their individual differences and are motivated to improve individual and work area contributions to achieve desired business results.
  • Participate in related staff, team and/or task group meetings to ensure constant communication of key items.
  • Maintain current knowledge for this position and within the work area through continuing education, subscriptions, certifications, and memberships; develop thorough working knowledge of area methods, productivity, and quality.

This position will develop internal relationships with Production Team members, Design Director, Head of Product, Technical Design, Pattern Maker and Cutter, as well as external relationships with vendors, including sewing contractors; cutters; trim suppliers; patternmakers and graders.

The successful candidates will possess the following:

  1. Education, training, and experience equivalent to an associate's degree in fashion, business merchandising or retail, or similar field with 3-5 years of directly related experience (including an understanding of the garment production process and exposure to wholesale, retail, Ecommerce environments). Coursework should be supplemented with keyboarding/word processing, spreadsheets, business math, business writing and grammar. A thorough understanding and working knowledge of production workflow and scheduling. Working knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies with a holistic viewpoint; ability to work in a fast-paced environment, setting priorities and managing time effectively. Minimal travel is expected.
  2. Must possess the ability to read, analyze and interpret business and technical documents, flow charts, budget information, procedure manuals and so on; the ability to prepare required routine reports and correspondence; ability to build positive team relationships, achieve outcome-oriented objectives and to communicate effectively with others (verbally and in writing), using skill and diplomacy and have the ability to work with all levels of the organization.
  3. Requires the ability to work within established health, safety and quality guidelines and the ability to organize workspaces, the workload and meet deadlines.
  4. Must possess working knowledge in automated systems and terminology and the ability to develop and interpret related reports using spreadsheet, word processing and related software. Requires the ability to operate a variety of standard business machines, such as a computer and keyboard, a calculator, telephone, FAX, photocopier and so on.
  5. Must possess the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, using whole numbers/decimals and the ability to apply concepts of business math to practical situations.
  6. Must possess the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram format. Must possess strong knowledge, understanding and experience in various problem-solving and participatory management techniques.
